Today, workers protest again

JAKARTA - Today, Wednesday (16/1) thousands of workers staged demonstrations against the re-suspension of plans including UMP rejected the planned increase in electricity tariff.

President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Union (KSPI) and the Federation of Indonesian Metal Workers Said Iqbal said that thousands of workers will be back on the streets.

"Workers will rally in Jakarta Metropolitan Police, the Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Manpower, the sum of the masses of 5,000 to 10,000 people," said Said Iqbal, today.

Rally related to the rejection of the suspension of the minimum wage realization provinces / cities, the rejection of the basic electricity tariff increase and the resistance to the criminalization of labor.
He said so far the producers are still trying to suspend the implementation of UMP / K.

"We also oppose the increase in TDL as directly impacting the welfare of the workers."
The increase in electricity tariff would affect as many workers rented houses and mortgages that use electricity above 900 KWH. As a result, workers will increase monthly electricity around 15,000 to 25,000 per month.

The increase in TDL also trigger an increase in prices of other items particularly the processed goods manufacturer uses electricity.

Coupled with the owner of the rented house that plans to raise the price of rental contract, so the rise in labor costs become meaningless.

On February 6, the workers will take to the streets with more mass. Said says at least 50,000 will rally at the State Palace and the House of Representatives to the demands of exercise of compulsory retirement, the implementation of health insurance for all citizens, decent wages, denial of the increase in TDL, until rejection suspension UMP / K.
