Kick-off meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO)

Medan, 1 February, 2024

Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for The Project Document for Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme Phase II – Indonesia: Country-Level Intervention Project 2024-2028 in Jakarta, marking the beginning of Phase II of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP), the Ministry of Industry has added 2 (two) pilot industrial parks: Kawasan Industri Medan (KIM) and Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) Deltamas.

As a follow-up to the MoU, KIM, as one of the pilot projects, held a kick-off meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) at Wisma KIM on Thursday (01/02).

The meeting focused on efforts to transform the industrial park into an environmentally conscious zone with a goal of achieving Net Zero Emission.

An Eco Industrial Park (EIP) is a step towards environmental protection by creating green designs for infrastructure, planning, and implementing clean production concepts, pollution prevention, waste management, emission control, and energy efficiency in industrial parks. In line with this, the implementation of EIP is expected to contribute to achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) for the industrial sector by 2050, which is 10 years ahead of the national NZE target set for 2060.

It is hoped that the collaboration between the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, UNIDO, and SECO will synergize effectively so that the NZE goal for the industrial sector by 2050 is not just a plan but can be realized and successfully implemented.
