Implementation of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme Phase II (GEIPP II)

Jakarta, 3 November, 2023

After the signing of the cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Industry and UNIDO last year in Jakarta, the implementation of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme Phase II (GEIPP II) will officially commence on January 1, 2024.

In Phase II of the project, there are additional programs, including the inclusion of two new pilot industrial parks: Kawasan Industri Medan (KIM) and Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) Deltamas. Additionally, there will be the establishment of an EIP Center in the PIDI 4.0 building in South Jakarta and an EIP program for greenfield industrial park investments.

Phase II of the GEIPP is also expected to contribute positively to the development of a more sustainable Indonesian industry and help achieve the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets in line with the Paris Agreement.

The implementation of Eco-Industrial Parks (EIP) is a crucial step in environmental conservation by creating green designs for infrastructure, planning, and applying concepts such as clean production, pollution prevention, waste management, emission control, and energy efficiency in industrial areas. In line with this, the EIP implementation aims to contribute to achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) in the industrial sector by 2050, which is 10 years ahead of the national NZE target set for 2060.

GEIPP is a UNIDO program designed to demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of industrial parks that implement environmentally-conscious concepts, particularly in improving economic, environmental, and social performance, contributing to inclusive and sustainable industrial development. In Indonesia, Phase I of the GEIPP has been running since 2020 and will conclude in 2023.
